In many situations, especially when you are changing careers, this pre-knowledge may not be<br \/>\npossible. The way you discover what you want for the future is by acting in new ways and exploring new situations.<br \/>\nShe proposes an alternative to the \u2018plan-and-implement\u2019 approach which involves exploring possible future selves. This \u2018test-andlearn\u2019 approach has three main elements:<br \/>\n\u2022<strong> Crafting experiments<\/strong> \u2014 trying new activities and taking on new roles on a small scale to reveal undiscovered parts of yourself<br \/>\nand explore new paths before you make a major commitment to a new direction<br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>Shifting connections<\/strong> \u2014 developing new contacts in order to explore new worlds, to discover new perspectives on yourself, to<br \/>\nfind new role models and to expose yourself to new opportunities<br \/>\n\u2022 <strong>Making sense<\/strong> \u2014 creating new stories about yourself and reinterpreting your previous experiences to uncover new meanings<br \/>\nand trigger transformation<br \/>\nIbarra, H.
